The Mayor wished to honor and thank the Consul of Côte d’Ivoire, H.E. Roland Roux de Chavanes, for his constant commitment over many years in favor of Mother and Child. He recalled the donations of equipment, buses, ambulances, and medical supplies provided to Yamoussoukro and its neighboring dispensaries.
The reception concluded with the surprise of the day: the inauguration of Roland Roux de Chavanes Avenue in one of the city’s upscale neighborhoods. Roland Roux de Chavanes, deeply moved, thanked on his own behalf, on behalf of his family present, and on behalf of the Order of Saint Gabriel, the city and state authorities present at this beautiful ceremony.
All of this has been implemented since the Grand Master’s last visit two years ago, at which time a partnership protocol was signed between the hospital and the Order of Saint Gabriel.
The hospital will soon be inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara.
In June 2015, the Order of Saint Gabriel presented Father Honzu in Lyon with a sum of €20,000, which allowed the financing of delivery rooms, the purchase of beds and mattresses, a colposcope, and 2 ambulances.
After a welcome speech, Father Honzu organized a tour of the facilities.
The Grand Master and his delegation were able to have long discussions with the hospital staff, who provided them with an exceptional welcome, as only Africans, and especially Ivorians, know how to do.
The Mother-Child Wing of the hospital has been called since February 21: “Saint Gabriel Mother-Child Wing.”
Grand Master H.E. Roland Roux de Chavanes thanked Father Honzu for this thoughtful gesture and congratulated him and all the staff for the quality of their work and the beauty of this hospital, which will be able to meet the needs of the sub-region if necessary.
The hospital currently employs about a hundred people (doctors and hospital services).
However, it still lacks doctors. Measures will be taken upon the delegation’s return to France to plan the temporary and voluntary deployment of doctors and nurses to Yamoussoukro. Members of the Order, who are medical professionals, will be invited to contribute to the realization of this project.
Following the hospital visit, the Mayor of Yamoussoukro, Jean Kouakou, and his municipal council organized a reception befitting the welcome reserved for dignitaries at the town hall, in the presence of the Prefect, customary chiefs, and political and military personalities of the region.
