General presentation

The Chapter of Hungary embodies the humanist and chivalric mission of the Order of St. Gabriel in the heart of central Europe. Located in a country rich in history, traditions and spirituality, this chapter strives to build bridges between the ancestral values of the Order and modern challenges, through committed local action.
This chapter supports social, educational and medical initiatives while representing the Order with the Hungarian authorities, religious institutions and civil society.

Ambassador – Lieutenant General (f.f.) Legate for Central Europe
As the official representative of the Order of St. Gabriel in Hungary, HE Georges SUHA acts with a deep sense of service, humanitarian diplomacy and chivalric tradition. Son rôle ne se limite pas à la Hongrie : en tant que Légat pour l’Europe Centrale, il veille à la coordination et à la synergie des actions entre les chapitres voisins (Autriche, Slovaquie, République tchèque, etc.). « L’engagement n’est pas une parole, c’est une responsabilité. »
Il est par ailleurs conseiller diplomatique du Grand Maître de l’Ordre.

Objectives and missions of the Chapter

The Hungarian Chapter deploys concrete and targeted actions in the following areas:

social solidarity

  • Material and food aid for disadvantaged families in rural Hungary
  • Support for orphanages and children’s homes

Regional humanitarian cooperation

  • Coordination of actions between the countries of Central Europe under the aegis of the Legat
  • Partnerships with other orders or humanitarian NGOs

promotion of universal values

  • Organization of conferences on the themes of ethics, modern chivalry, and peace
  • Participation in diplomatic and cultural ceremonies

Regional influence and partnerships

The Hungarian Chapter acts in connection with:

  • The municipal and social authorities of Budapest and the provinces
  • Des ONG locales, telles que Hungarian Maltese Charity Service (Service de charité de Malte)
  • The other chapters of Central Europe, notably in Serbia, Austria and Slovakia

It also works for the mutual recognition of Christian values of solidarity in a region marked by historical tensions and modern social issues.
