Medical Mission at « Saint Joseph Moscati's » Hospital in Yamoussoukro

Sent to Côte d'Ivoire by the Grand Master of the Order Saint-Gabriel, H.E. Roland de Boutechoux de Chavanes and in agreement with the Constable of the Order, H.E. Jürg Staübli.
This mission was led by Dr Bruno Schaffner (Radiologist, Cancero) Commander of the Hospitaliers of the Order of Saint-Gabriel in France.

He was accompanied by Drs Jean Pierre Pichon (ORL) and Bernard Pincemaille (Anesthesiologist - REA), both hospital knights.

They were received by Father Jean de Dieu Bellembaongo at the Yamoussoukro Hospital in order to carry out advanced consultations in the villages near the country's capital.

The Mayor of Yamoussoukro Jean Kouakou (Photo) was involved in this medical project.

Our team visited the following villages (6 in number): DJAHAKRO - GPANGBASSOU - DJAMALABO - BONZI - NANAN and MOREFE in the BAOULE country, in agreement of course with the village chiefs who gave their agreement and who invited the Medical Team at the end of the consultations for a lunch offered by the Village

Some MOSCATI Doctors accompanied our teams during all these particular days, according to the opinion of the team, which was too small in number, mainly in paediatrics and gynaeco-obstetrics. Also part of the team of the Order of Saint- Gabriel, the Regional Directors of Local Health Dr. KARAMOKO Jean-Claude and TOURE with whom they have forged friendly ties that should improve in the future during their future missions.

  • They were received REMARKABLE by the population not accustomed to receiving Doctors of the Order of St. Gabriel at their doorstep in the villages and at their disposal free of charge.
  • They were received with ATTENTION by the Regional Health Directors; very interested in this form of cooperation in favour of the populations.
  • They were also received with PASSION by the Village Chiefs and the Political Authorities delighted to see that the "White" Doctors of the Order of Saint Gabriel were travelling without compensation to the needy population, as the Mayor of the city Jean Kouakou pointed out.
During the doctors' stays, more than 700 people were treated in all the villages visited
  • Our doctors have noted a cruel lack of resources (especially at the level of dispensaries where they exist) material (hospital beds - incubators - medical equipment of first necessity etc.).
  • Schaffner Commander should study the possibilities of providing this type of equipment.
  • The conferences given within the framework of MOSCATI - ENT - Emergencies - use of Medical Imaging for examinations - have been attended by a number of MOSCATI Doctors (but poorly understood, it seems on the practical side) and require the sending of competent people with hospital experience in the field: (radio manipulators, anaesthetists, specialised paediatric and neonatal nurses)
  • This question will be discussed with the Constable of the Order, Ambassador Jürg Staübli. Chairman of the Donations Committee and Grand-Master Roland de Boutechoux of Chavanes
In the long term, funding should be provided for specific assistance and a Standard Contract should be defined for one or two months on site.
Coverage of accommodation by the Community of the Sisters or Brothers of Camillia + meals + accommodation.

  • It is absolutely essential to DEVELOP the PHENOMENE of ADVANCED CONSULTATIONS by using the dispensaries whose equipment and presence of competent staff must be improved, and no longer talk about FORAINE CONSULTATIONS.
  • Provide adequate means of transport for the population, in order to better serve the Medical Centres located 20 to 50 minutes from the main villages: 300,000 inhabitants around YAMOUSSOUKRO. Mayor Jean Kouakou will study the possibility of putting the coaches offered by the Grand-Master of the Order of Saint-Gabriel, Roland de Boutechoux de Chavanes. Taking care of the children's school trips.
  • Waging war against the sale of fraudulent or expired drugs.
Much remains to be done before our teams consider further actions in other countries
