Action in favor of the Saint-Joseph Moscati hospital in Yamoussoukro

At around eleven o’clock on Monday, June 30, 2014, the Grand Master of the Order of St. Gabriel, Consul of Côte d’Ivoire in the Rhône-Alpes Region, SEM Roland Roux de Chavanes, after a brief speech, handed over a check for €20,000 to Father Yvon Serge Hounsou, General Director of the « Mother and Child » Hospital in Yamoussoukro (Côte d’Ivoire). On behalf of the Order of Saint Gabriel, the Grand Master presents €20,000 to the hospital director, Father Honzou. As the political capital of Côte d’Ivoire, the city of Yamoussoukro has a modern hospital with a capacity of 250 beds, serving as a reference in West Africa. In partnership with the Petram Foundation, the Order of Saint Gabriel provided funds for the development of a Mother and Child wing within the hospital. More specifically, the aid will be used to supply all types of medical, paramedical, and mobile equipment, such as microscopes, gynecological tables, and radiology machines. At the opening of the session, Father Béal from the African missions of Lyon congratulated the Order of Saint Gabriel for choosing its premises to host such a large-scale event. He took the opportunity to recall his 30 years of experience in Côte d’Ivoire, repeatedly saying the word “AKWABA” (welcome to our home) to all the guests: Consuls General, Honorary Consuls, priests, Army General, Hospital Directors, knights of different orders, and representatives of all backgrounds, etc. Taking the floor in turn, the Grand Master of the Order of St. Gabriel greeted all attendees. He then outlined the main missions of the Order: to serve humanity, and especially to work for the well-being of children and their mothers. Over the past years, the Order has supported several institutions and associations. In 2014, two ambulances were donated to Saint Joseph Hospital. Before closing the ceremony with various protocol signings, Father Serge Yvon Hounsou, Hospital Director, emphasized on behalf of the Holy See and personally the importance of this support. For him, this gesture is crucial as it will allow the rapid completion of major works in this hospital. With great relief and pleasure, Father Hounsou thanked the Grand Master of the Order of St. Gabriel, SEM Roland Roux de Chavanes.

Inauguration of the Mother-Child Wing at Saint-Joseph Hospital in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast

On February 21, a delegation of the Order of Saint Gabriel, composed of the Grand Master of the Order, H.E. Roland Roux de Chavanes, Consul of Côte d’Ivoire, the Legate of the Order in West Africa, Consul of Côte d’Ivoire, H.E. Gaston Brun, and the special envoy of the Swiss chapter, Knight Anthony Béal, was received by Father Serge Honzu, Director of the hospital. Father Honzu was accompanied by the medical staff and hospital services. The delegation was able to observe significant achievements: fully equipped operating rooms with the most modern equipment, delivery rooms with all technical services necessary for safe childbirth, radiology and CT scan rooms, etc. All of this has been implemented since the Grand Master’s last visit two years ago, at which time a partnership protocol was signed between the hospital and the Order of Saint Gabriel. The hospital will soon be inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara. In June 2015, the Order of Saint Gabriel presented Father Honzu in Lyon with €20,000, which allowed the financing of delivery rooms, the purchase of beds and mattresses, a colposcope, and 2 ambulances. After a welcome speech, Father Honzu organized a tour of the facilities. The Grand Master and his delegation were able to have long discussions with the hospital staff, who provided them with an exceptional welcome, as only Africans, and especially Ivorians, know how to do. The visit concluded with the inauguration of the Mother-Child Wing and the surprise unveiling of the marble plaque bearing the coat of arms of the Order of Saint Gabriel, commemorating the Order’s continuous efforts in its favor. The Mother-Child Wing of the hospital has been called since February 21: « Saint Gabriel Mother-Child Wing. » Grand Master H.E. Roland Roux de Chavanes thanked Father Honzu for this thoughtful gesture and congratulated him and all the staff for the quality of their work and the beauty of this hospital, which will be able to meet the needs of the sub-region if necessary. The hospital currently employs about a hundred people (doctors and hospital services). However, it still lacks doctors. Measures will be taken upon the delegation’s return to France to plan the temporary and voluntary deployment of doctors and nurses to Yamoussoukro. Members of the Order who are medical professionals will be invited to contribute to the realization of this project. Following the hospital visit, the Mayor of Yamoussoukro, Jean Kouakou, and his municipal council organized a reception befitting the welcome reserved for dignitaries at the town hall, in the presence of the Prefect, customary chiefs, and political and military personalities of the region. The Mayor wished to honor and thank the Consul of Côte d’Ivoire, H.E. Roland Roux de Chavanes, for his constant commitment over many years in favor of Mother and Child. He recalled the donations of equipment, buses, ambulances, and medical supplies provided to Yamoussoukro and its neighboring dispensaries. The reception concluded with the surprise of the day: the inauguration of Roland Roux de Chavanes Avenue in one of the city’s upscale neighborhoods. Roland Roux de Chavanes, deeply moved, thanked on his own behalf, on behalf of his family present, and on behalf of the Order of Saint Gabriel, the city and state authorities present at this beautiful ceremony. After the plaque inauguration, the delegation, consisting of about thirty members, went to the Hôtel Président for a cocktail offered by the Grand Master. Photos
